James J. Drury III


Jim is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of JamesDruryPartners, focused on the placement and recruitment of board directors, and providing counsel on governance policy and board processes.  Prior to founding our firm, Jim was Vice Chairman, Americas and a board director of Spencer Stuart.  Earlier he led its Chicago office, ultimately serving as U.S. Managing Partner.  He is also a past board director of the Association of Executive Search Consultants.

During Jim's long career, he has successfully conducted over 400 consulting assignments for more than 200 clients, in almost every industry sector.  His clients have ranged from Fortune 500 corporations to startup businesses in consumer products, distribution, retail, healthcare, telecommunications and manufacturing.  Board clients have included AT&T, Chevron, UPS, Honeywell, Morgan Stanley, American Express, Colgate-Palmolive, Hanesbrands, Target, Harley-Davidson, and Cabela’s.

He founded the annual Corporate Governance conference, "Toward Common Ground" at Northwestern's Kellogg Graduate School of Management, and founded The Directors' College at the University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business, chairing its Advisory Board.  He is a past member of the Advisory Council of the Chicago Booth School of Business, a board trustee of The Museum of Science and Industry, a benefactor of Friends of Conservation in Kenya, a board trustee of Music of the Baroque Chorus and Orchestra, and a member of The Commercial Club of Chicago.

Jim began his career with the Boeing Company in strategic planning, and then served as a management consultant with Donald R. Booz & Associates and Ernst & Young LLP.  He holds an MBA in Marketing from the University of Chicago, and a BS in Engineering from the University of Notre Dame.  Jim and his wife Peggy are long-time residents of Barrington Hills, Illinois.  Jim has been a horseman for over 30 years, serving as President of the Oak Brook Polo Club and a member of the Massbach Hounds Hunt Club.  He and his wife Peggy also enjoy brief escapes to their lake home in the Northwoods.
